2005 - Travels at home and abroad! We have had another busy and interesting year, traveling not only in the USA and Canada, but also France, Ireland and England. We apologize up front to those many friends in England who we wanted to visit but in the brief time available, it just was not feasible. Please don't be mad at us; we promise we'll make it next time! We have included below, mention of some of the visits we made this year, but also want to thank Tony and Pauline, Bill and Margaret, George and Margaret and Peter for their wonderful hospitality. We can't leave out Pat's sister and brother in law, Jean and Ivan, who also hosted us right in the middle of the fruit picking season and a big birthday party! Back here in Sudden Valley, we have almost completed the various landscaping projects that have continued from last year. Below the house is a fenced area in which we are going to plant a small fruit orchard next February. The local deer will not be happy that they can see but not eat those apples and pears. Bruce has actually started to play golf at long last and our Sudden Valley club pro is giving him lessons. A three minute walk to the clubhouse, driving range and putting green is being taken advantage of and we also have several friends with whom to make up a foursome. In July our grandson, Kyle, who has just started grade two, joined us again for a week during the summer break and by now he is back into his ice hockey, soccer and swimming activities. In June we traveled to Tempe, Arizona to visit our friends Wayne and Rosemary. The weather was HOT. We cooled off in their pool which was only eighty four degrees! I also took the opportunity to renew my acquaintance with Terry Larson who lives very close by and see his fantastic collection of classic Jaguar cars. You can see a picture of one of his cars here. |
In August we visited friends in British Columbia: John and Merrilyn on Hornby Island and Rob and Jessica on Vancouver Island. The weather was beautiful | and we received great hospitality. Rob and Jessica took us on their sailboat around the Gulf Islands. Here we are with Rob relaxing after a fun day out on the water. |
September Travels |
Shanklin, Isle of Wight: Life time friends of ours, Ros and Maggie recently purchased this beautiful twenty bedroom hotel with great sea views. Definitely worth a visit! More details here. | We spent the largest part of this vacation with Walter and Beth and believe me that's not a bad thing! They were incredible hosts, in France and at their home in the UK. Thank you both so much. |
Goodwood: Home of the Earl of March. Three days of glorious weather, fabulous vintage and classic sports cars racing on a famous circuit. Click here for more details and photos. | Pat and her sister visited County Cork, Ireland where their mother was born and grew up. While in the area, they went to Blarney Castle and of course kissed the Blarney Stone. No results yet! |
We had a wonderful reunion with our dear friends David and Molly David was our 'Best Man' almost forty five years ago! The time passed all too quickly, so we're pushing for a reciprocal visit! | My brother Geoff and I went on a brief road trip along the south east coast. I had forgotten what a great traveling companion Geoff is. Our favorite resting place was the 'Hope Anchor' in Rye. |
Thanksgiving is just a few days away and Christmas is almost upon us. How fast this year has gone by. Rob and Jessica will join us for Thanksgiving and we will share the morning with several other friends here in the Valley as well. This year it is our turn to visit Andrew, Leona and Kyle for Christmas. We wish you the best of season's greetings and a happy and peaceful New Year. Also hoping that some of you may be able to visit us here in 2006! Patricia and Bruce
