2008 - A quieter year......After several busy years of post retirement , we have settled for a quieter year in 2008, not traveling as much but still deeply involved with the local community. It is amazing to realize that we have now lived in Bellingham for twenty five years, longer than anywhere else and obviously our adopted home. Bruce is strongly committed to the economic development and welbeing of the area, serving in several leadership capacities. Patricia continues to keep herself fit and fully socially occupied. We have both played a lot more golf this year, taking advantage of living next to a championship golf course along with all the other resort activities here at Sudden Valley. We are hoping that the rapid growth of nearby cities like Seattle and Vancouver will not impact our community too much and we will remain just a quiet university town just a little longer.

Run to the Sun

Early in the year we decided to get away from the rain and re-visit our favorite Hawai'ian Island and place of our former residence: Hawai'i - 'The Big Island'. This time we decide to stay further south in a small place called Honaunau and away from the increasingly commercialized Kona environs. The weather was fine and there were some new and acceptable restaurants that have started up around Captain Cook. There are also some great snorkeling beaches in the vicinity. We took the opportunity to catch up with some old friends, Richard and Cynthia Erst who have created a beautiful new home for themselves above Papa Bay

Social life still going strong....

We are blessed with many friends and enjoy their company in different styles. In the late summer an informal group of us set off on one of our traditional weekend sports car road trips, which culminated in watching one of our group racing his Sunbeam Tiger at the Mission Vintage Races. We have also attended several Car Shows and the old E-type continues to do us proud. In this picture, we are at a more formal event with our friends Chuck Snyder and his wife, Johanna who is showing me a new magic trick she has just learned from the young magician on my left.

Preparing for the Holiday Season

As we prepare for this coming Christmas Season, we look back on some of the special experiences of this year: watching our grandson Kyle grow into a fine boy, a bumper crop of apples from our orchard, Patricia's nephew Ian Clark spending time with us from England and of course our good health. We are equally cognizant of the effects of the recent terrible economic downturn worldwide, particularly for some of those who are close to us. We wish all of you good fortune and a healthy, happy 2009. After the most disastrous presidency and administration in living memory, surely only better things lie ahead later next year.

Love and best wishes,

Patricia and Bruce
