2004 - Getting Organized at Last!

We have had a busy and interesting year, actually catching up on several outstanding projects and settling back in Sudden Valley. Last Spring I completed my accreditation in Web Site Design and Management at Western Washington University and I hope that some of the useful skills I learned in the process will start to be reflected in these pages, but particularly those of my small consulting company, Cascadia Consulting Services
Patricia has also been busy with her new hobby of wood carving. She is lucky enough to be mentored by one of the outstanding wood carvers in the Pacific Northwest, who built his reputation in Alaska and also happens to be a personal friend. We have included some of the events of the year below which stand out as some of the more 'fun' things we experienced. Enjoy!

Kyle enjoying our Spa at Sudden Valley

Our Grandson, Kyle came to stay with us during his summer holidays. That was quite an experience! Non-stop hiking, biking and swimming and he never seemed to run out of energy. His favorite times were in the early evenings when we would go fishing on the nearby lake. He managed to catch some nice trout on every outing, while Grandpa got skunked every time much to everyone's amusement. He says he is already planning what we are going to do next year!
Kyle is now into his winter pastimes which include two evenings of soccer practice, two evenings of ice skating practice and on Saturdays, an ice hockey match in the morning and a soccer match in the afternoon. We are amazed at how Andrew and Leona can keep up with such a schedule as well as work all day.

Mariachos on the beach
We had the pleasure in early August of joining our friends Geoff and Judy at the wedding of their son James to new daughter in law Jennifer. The ceremony was held on the beach on the Riviera Maya, Mexico. Relatives and friends all stayed at the Bahia Principe Akumal and we lived like royalty for seven glorious days. With many local areas of historical interest like Chitchen-Itza and the temples of Tulum, there was much opportunity for exploration. On the other hand, just sitting by the pool was pretty good too!

Botanical Gardens
Following the disastrous election results on November 2, we decided to console ourselves with a brief trip to Arizona to visit with our friends Wayne and Rosemary. The weather was warm and sunny and we had a wonderful time doing the tourist things and just sitting back and relaxing with them.
Canyon Lake
Wayne has recently retired although his amazing fitness schedule makes me tired just thinking about it! We visited the Botanical Gardens and Canyon Lake, stopping on the way back at Tortilla Flat at an interesting old tavern. Unfortunately, all too soon it was time to fly back to the rainy Northwest.

We wish all relatives and friends a peaceful and joyous holiday season and a very happy New 2005 Year. We continue to look forward to receiving your letters and email, so keep them coming to us with all your news.
Patricia and I plan to do some more extensive traveling in 2005, so maybe we will see you again soon!

Love and best wishes to all,

Bruce and Patricia
